Hoffman Kiln
(24 hours in blue)

2024
Comprising of 36 tiles, Hoffman Kiln (24 hours in blue) employs cyanotype on tile, using a method developed by the artist, depicting the titular brick and tile continuous kiln at Prestongrange, East Lothian. The process to create these photographic tiles, with the image embedded into the surface, is unpredictable, resulting in variation of contrast and colour across the work.

The title refers to the number of chambers inside the kiln, as well as the total exposure time for the entire set of tiles, with each tile taking 40 minutes.
